Applications

Early Bird Applications are now open for entry in July 2010

Applications received by the Faculty before the end of November 2009 will be processed before the end of the year. That is, applicants will be advised of the success of their early application (after an interview in late November/December) before the end of the December, 2009. Prospective students, including those in the final year of their Bachelor of Science studies, are encouraged to submit their application early; it is not necessary to wait for final semester marks.

The Application Form (see below) must be submitted in hardcopy only to either the Faculty (domestic applicants) or to the International Centre (international applicants).

Applications will be accepted until the end of January/early February 2010 for the July 2010 start.

1. Check on the requirements for entry

Prospective students should review this web site for details of the Prerequisite Knowledge required for entry to the course.

Enquiries concerning suitability for entry to the programme may be made via email at any time to Professor Alan W. Everett, Director, Pharmacy Programmes (Alan.Everett@uwa.edu.au). Enquiries about the application process can be directed to Mr Rhys Daly, Administrative Officer (Rhys.Daly@uwa.edu.au) in the Faculty Office.

2. Application Forms:

(i) Domestic Students

Application form (PDF - 61 KB)

Non UWA domestic students will need to attach the following additional information:

· A copy of the official transcript of your tertiary entrance examinations results. This should indicate the subjects taken and the marks obtained.
· An original or certified copy of your official academic transcript from your tertiary institution. Details of the grading system used by the institution (usually on the reverse of the transcript) are also required.  It is recognized that some prospective students may not have completed their degree at this time.
 · The handbook description of the subjects or units that are indicated on the academic record that fulfill the Additional Selection Criteria (as detailed under Required Knowledge). For past graduates, please use the description at the time the course was completed - this may require contacting the library at the institution.
· If necessary, a complete list (if available) of the lecture and laboratory topics making up those subject areas that meet the Additional Selection Criteria; this information is required when the Handbook descriptions do not reflect the depth and breadth of the material covered in a particular subject area. It is recognized that past graduates may not be able to obtain this information; if so, please provide your own description of the material covered in the course.

Official records must be certified when included with the Application Form.

(ii) International Students

(Prospective international students should first consult the UWA International Centre web site for general information).

Application forms can be downloaded from here (pdf 184kb).  Please select the Coursework application form.

NOTE:
1. The final closing date for Pharmacy is earlier than indicated on the UWA International Centre web site.
2. As well as the extra documentation requested on the Application Form, be sure to include the additional information indicated above for non-UWA students. Official records must be certified when included with the Application Form.

3. Checklist:

Please ensure the application is submitted directly to the University with the following information:

· Completed Application Form (Master of Pharmacy course work code 51500, commencement date, 26th July 2010).
· Detailed information of the content (lecture and/or lab topics) of those subjects that fulfill the requirements of the Additional Selection Criteria (all applicants not from UWA). It is important to provide information about what units of study provide the appropriate background for entry to the programme so that your prerequisite knowledge and therefore eligibility can be appropriately assessed.
· Brief Curriculum Vitae. This could include a personal statement about why you wish to be a pharmacist, as well as information that may be relevant to the application such as other further education, community health care activities etc.
· Certified copies of Academic Records (Secondary and Tertiary) and grading systems used (non UWA students).
· Certified copy of proof of citizenship (such as photo page from passport, birth certificate etc) AND a clear National Police Certificate

NOTE WELL: Applicants cannot be offered a place in the programme prior to submission of a criminal record check (National Police Certificate).  International students need to obtain clearance from their home country unless they have been resident in Australia for the duration of their undergraduate degree, in which case local police clearance is acceptable.

4. Selection Process:

A selection committee will consider all applicants using the following to determine eligibility for entry to the course:

1. Academic performance

2. Background in required knowledge areas.

3. Outcome of a personal interview (or telephone interview if necessary) - to be conducted in the December period for early-bird applications.

The committee will be looking for individuals with a strong academic record, but as well, those with good communication skills and empathy for others. The ideal pharmacist is also someone who is meticulous and has an eye for detail.
