Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I register as a pharmacist after completing the UWA Master of Pharmacy?
A: Yes (after completing a 2000 hr pre-registration internship in the workplace)
2. Any financial support for students?
A: HECS-HELP available to students receiving a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP). FEE-HELP is available to eligible students not holding a CSP. Living allowance is available to eligible students from Centrelink for Masters students.
3. How do I apply for a Commonwealth Supported Place
A: Once the number of CSPs available is finalized, domestic applicants receiving a place in the pharmacy programme will be offered a CSP based primarily on the applicants academic performance as an undergraduate.
4. Are there scholarships available?
A: $10,000/yr available to students from rural and remote areas from the Pharmacy Guild of Australia. Commonwealth and UWA scholarships are also available to eligible students.
5. When will I know if I have a place?
A: By the end of Dec (for applications received before 1st Dec every year), otherwise soon after the final closing date at the end of Jan or Feb of the year of entry.
6. What do you want in my CV?
A: Personal background information (why do you want to become a pharmacist?), full educational history, including extra-curricula academic activities, any community health care service (eg, volunteer with Activ organization, Red Cross etc), work in a pharmacy, other information that may strengthen your case.
7. Can I do undergraduate units at UWA to meet all pre-requisite requirements?

A: Yes, you may apply through University Extension (UWA). As well, you may also complete approved units from other universities. These may be completed during semester 1 of the year of entry.
8. May I complete the programme Part Time?
A: Yes, over a maximum of 4 years
9. Do I have to arrange my own placement while in the programme?
A; No, the university does this on your behalf.
10. Do I get paid while completing my 2500 hours pre-registration training?
A: Yes.
11. What is a "500 hours" position?
A: This is part of the 2500 hours of workplace (pre-registration) training (or internship) required prior to registration. 500 hours of the 2500 may be completed before graduation, while the remaining 2000 hours must be completed after graduation.
12. Do I need to complete the additional 500 hours if I intend to complete my pre-registration training outside of W.A.?
A: No. The 500 hrs is a requirement in W.A. only.
13. Do I submit my application through TISC?
A: No. All applications must be submitted directly to the University (to the Faculty of Life and Physical Sciences if domestic and the International Centre if international)
14. Is this programme suitable for overseas qualified pharmacists?
A: No. The MPharm is not intended for already qualified pharmacists, rather, science graduates wishing to obtain registration as a pharmacist. Already qualified pharmacists should seek registration through APEC.
