Premises
UWA Pharmacy is located in what was the Biochemistry building (pictured) on Hackett Drive over looking Matilda Bay (see map). The building has been completely refurbished and Pharmacy occupies the top (2nd) floor and part of the ground floor.
The premises include several research laboratories with associated offices for academic pharmacy staff and their higher degree students, a dispensary/computer laboratory with associated poisons and counselling rooms, a student common room, a pharmacy library, laboratory for pharmaceutics and medicinal chemistry, a seminar room, service areas and other office space for adjunct staff and administration. A Pharmacy reception area is located on the ground floor and includes a display of The Geoff Miller Collection of Pharmacy Memorabilia on loan to the School from Pharmaceutical Defence Limited. This building is located close to the new Molecular and Chemical Sciences building, which is the most advanced biomolecular sciences facility in Western Australia and home to world-class research groups working in areas such as drug design, green chemistry, nanotechnology, computational biology, genetics, proteomics, and molecular and cell biology. The close association of Pharmacy with these activities as part of the same School provides great opportunities for Pharmacy with respect to teaching and research in the areas of biomedicine, medicinal chemistry and evaluation and quality control of pharmaceuticals. |
